Academic background
Dr. Civin graduated from Harvard College, earning his A.B. cum laude. He later earned a Master of Arts from the University of Oregon before continuing his clinical psychology training at Adelphi University's Gordon F. Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies. At Adelphi, he completed an M.A. in Clinical Psychology and earned his PhD in 1988. He later received a Postdoctoral Certificate in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.
Clinical career
Across his career, Dr. Civin has worked in a broad range of settings, including inpatient and outpatient programs, addiction treatment, adolescent day care, homes for adults, university-based clinics, organizational consultation, and private practice.
